Frequently asked questions
What is the Roth IRA contribution limit for 2026?+
$7,500, or $8,600 if you're 50 or older — shared across all your IRAs, and never more than your earned income.
What are the 2026 Roth IRA income limits?+
The limit phases out between $153,000 and $168,000 of modified AGI for single filers and $242,000–$252,000 for married couples filing jointly.
How is a reduced contribution calculated?+
Your limit shrinks in proportion to how far your MAGI is into the phase-out range, then rounds up to the next $10. If the result is above $0 but under $200, you can still contribute $200.
What if my income is too high?+
Many people use a backdoor Roth: contribute to a traditional IRA without deducting it, then convert to a Roth. If you have other pre-tax IRA money, the pro-rata rule makes part of the conversion taxable.
